The National AIDS Council (NAC) on Friday organised a field day at Bindura Prison where it officially handed-over maize it helped to grow after contributing $100,000 for boosting food supplies for inmates.
NAC information officer Tadiwa Pfupa says her organisation was mostly worried about inmates that were receiving anti-retroviral drugs, meant to contain the Human Immuno Virus (HIV) which causes AIDS.
Government officials, who attended the event, included Vice President Emmerson Mnangwagwa who is also the justice minister, Health Minister David Parirenyatwa, Mashonaland Central Provincial Affairs Minister Martin Dinha, Zimbabwe Prison Services boss Paradzai Zimondi and several others.
Pfupa said NAC is happy that they have helped to alleviate hunger in prisons.
