Human rights activists say they are concerned about the fate of a Zimbabwean captured in a video that has gone viral on social media showing him being whipped by a group of policemen.

Lizwe Jamela, a member of the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, said the fate of the victim, who was being beaten up in public, is still unknown.

“That is the most barbaric act I have seen being captured on video but somehow I may say I am not actually shocked because these are some of the things we always say when we speak about police brutality,” said Jamela.

He said they are appealing for information that would lead to the identification of the victim.

Jamela noted that Zimbabweans will play a key role in providing information about the video as this happened when some rank touts molested a woman in Harare.
