The Zimbabwe football family is celebrating following the ouster at the weekend of Cuthbert Dube as Zifa president.
From Zambezi to Limpopo the story is the same with many saying this was long overdue.
Although Dube announced last Friday that he was stepping down, the Sepp Blater way, until elections for his post were held on December 5, the Zifa Council did not take any of it and passed a vote of confidence in him and his entire board.
The reasoning for that was that Dube, who claims to have used more than a million dollars from his own pocket to fund Zimbabwean football, has destroyed Zimbabwean football in the five years he has been at the helm.
Football fans Ignatius and Norman Masiyambiri, said Dube should not boast about the money that he gave Zifa because he was allegedly earning huge sums of money from the Public Service Medical Aid Society that he left bankrupt after earning half a million dollars monthly for years.
Another member of the football family, Chipo Nyangoro, said councilors should not elect people for their money but choose those with football at heart.
The full board which was revoked had the following members - Dube (president), vice president Omega Sibanda, John Phiri, Twine Phiri, Fungai Chihuri, Tawengwa Hara, Miriam Sibanda, and Ben Gwarada.
Meanwhile, the Mighty Warriors are on the verge of qualifying for the 2016 Olympic Games following a narrow 2-1 defeat away to Cameroon in Yaounde at the weekend.
The senior women’s soccer team only needs a 1-0 win in the second leg in Harare in two weeks-time to become the first ever Zimbabwean soccer team to qualify for the global sports festival.
Football action also continued on the local scene with the staging of the Chibuku Super Cup semi-finals at Mandava Stadium in Zvishavane.
Harare City stormed into the final after a 4-1 hammering of ZPC Kariba with Francisco Zikumbawire grabbing a double for the City Fathers.
Zikumbawire, however, paid tribute to team play for the team’s progression to their second consecutive Chibuku Super Cup final.
ZPC Karica coach Sunday ‘Mhofu’ Chidzambwa said his team did not play well and admitted that Harare City were superior.
Harare City will meet Dynamos in the final which overcame Chapungu 1-0.
