In this second edition of a discussion on the role of non-governmental organizations in streghtening democracy in Zimbabwe, two top activists say funding has an impact on the social, economic and political transformation of any nation.
Speaking at a conference in Washington DC organised jointly by the National Endowment for Democracy and the Robert F. Kennedy for Human Rights and Justice, Arthur Gwagwa of the Zimbabwe Human Rights Forum and Jeffrey Smith of the Robert F. Kennedy Center said foreign governments should fund civil society without interfering with most processes in a nation.
Smith says lack of funding is affecting some programs in Zimbabwe.
Gwagwa, a Reagan-Fascell Democracy fellowship in Washington.
