Striking doctors Thursday called off their industrial action and agreed to return to work Friday after the government agreed to a slight adjustment of their allowances.

The Zimbabwe Hospital Doctors’ Association says its members met at Parirenyatwa Hospital on Thursday and resolved to resume their duties full scale while negotiations continue.

The strike, which had paralyzed state hospitals, entered its third week Monday with government requesting for more time to look into the doctors’ grievances.

The doctors are demanding a hike in their salaries and improved working conditions, among other issues.

About 400 junior and middle level doctors are reportedly on strike.
