The Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries (CZI) has organized an all-stakeholders symposium to discuss de-industrialisation which it says has reached catastrophic levels with dire consequences for the country’s struggling economy.

CZI chief executive Clifford Sileya told VOA Studio 7 the meeting whose theme is “Taking Zimbabwe Industry to the Next Level”, will take place Thursday in Harare.

Finance Minister Patrick Chinamasa, Mines Minister Walter Chidhakwa and Industry Minister Mike Bimha are expected to attend the event.

Local representatives from the International Monetary Fund, World Bank, independent economists, and university lecturers will also attend the social, economic and political symposium.

The 2014 state of the manufacturing sector survey released by the CZI indicates that industrial capacity utilization has declined to 36.3%.

Economist Washington Mehlomakulu says captains of industry and commerce should come up with tangible solutions to tackle the economy instead of waiting for government to map the way forward.
