Zimbabwean cricketers have benefitted from the just-ended Triangular Series as bowlers have made significant strides up the world perking order following the latest rankings released by the International Cricket Council on Monday.

This follows their good performance in the just-ended Triangular Series which also saw disappointing Zimbabwean batsman failing to make any impact on the rankings.

Spinner Prosper Utseya has moved 10 places up the ladder to 34th in the world, having been 44th when the rankings were last updated while fast bowler, Tendai Chatara, is now placed 56th in the world - 14 places up the table.

Utseya was the third-leading wicket-taker of the tournament behind Dale Steyn and Nathan Lyon.

But the biggest Zimbabwean beneficiary was Sean Williams who moved 27 places but is still below the top 50 in the world as he is placed 75th.

The star of the Triangular Series, South Africa’s Faf du Plessis, who plundered three centuries one of them against Zimbabwe, has also benefited greatly after jumping 33 places and is now number 11th in the world.

Captain AB de Villiers is the top-ranked batsman in the world.

There was no upward movement for Zimbabwe’s batsmen. In fact, Brendan Taylor who hit 79 runs in the 63 run defeat to South Africa has dropped one place and is now 30th the world over.

Meanwhile, the Green Machine house is on fire. The 6-0 Zimbabwe National Army Challenge defeat at the hands of FC Platinum has raised alarm in the Caps United home.

This time, the fans, were not singing against coach, Taurayi Mangwiro, but against club owner, Twine Phiri, who they accuse of failing to properly run the club.

Apart from the 6-0 hammering at Mandava Stadium, Zimbabwe’s third biggest club had nearly failed to travel to Bulawayo to fulfill a league match against Bantu Rovers.

By the way, Dynamos won the TM Pick N Pay Challenge after hammering Highlanders 4-1. The defeat did not go down well with the Bosso fans who after the game were calling for the head of coach, Kelvin Kaindu.

Before the game Kaindu had pledged to end Dynamos’ eight year dominance over Bosso.
