Mugabe Appoints New Attorney General

President Robert Mugabe has appointed Prince Machaya as the country’s new attorney general.

According to the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation the appointment by the president, who has just left the country to attend a Southern African Development Community (SADC) troika meeting on Lesotho in South Africa, is in terms of section 114 (1) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe.

Machaya, who has been deputy attorney general since December 2007, is expected to expedite the alignment of the country’s new constitution and other pieces of legislation.

He replaces his former boss Johannes Tomana who is now the country’s prosecutor general.
