Zimbabwe's YALI Fellow to Use USADF Grant to Empower Women

Kudakwashe Makuzwa of Anaya Investments, one of the three Zimbabweans, are among 40 of the Mandela Washington Fellows who were awarded $25,000 entreprenuership grants by the United States African Development Foundation (USDF) to start or expand their social enterprises in their home countries, says she wants to empower women.

The other two are Farai Chizengeni of Utano Tech and Andrew Chikomba of Tomire Trading.

According to USADF, a million dollars in grant awards has been availed to the fellows as part of USADF’S over $7 million commitment over three years to fund young African entrepreneurs, who are launching and expanding their businesses and social ventures across Sub-Saharan Africa.

Kuda Makuzwa in the 2015 YALI handbook describes herself as an enterpreneur with interests in sustainable development, agriculture, empowerment of women and environmental management and am working on projects to develop sustainablbe farming pracitices in African communities.

Makuzwa said she hopes to empower women in her community with the $25 000 grant.
