Chicken Inn, Triangle FC and Dynamos are in the race to secure the last tournament of the season.

Action this weekend shifts from the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League to the NetOne Easycall Cup that is featuring the top eight teams from last season.

Chicken Inn, Triangle FC and Dynamos are in the race to secure the last tournament of the season which is being sponsored to the tune of $433,000.

The winners of the competition are guaranteed of $80,000 with the runners up taking home $50,000 while all the participating teams will also be rewarded financially.

Dynamos are hoping to capitalize on the late coming of the tournament to make up for the loss of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League title and the Chibuku Super Cup.

The popular Harare club will first have to deal with How Mine whom they have been drawn to play in the quarter finals set for Rufaro Stadium on Sunday.

Coach Tonderayi Ndiraya believes the Easycall Cup is their only source of hope after three draws in a row saw them surrender their dream of a fifth successive league championship.

Ndiraya has lost the support of his team’s horde of followers but chairman Keni Mubaiwa says his job is safe despite word doing rounds that the club has approached former coach Sunday Chidzambwa who is at ZPC Kariba.

Ndiraya, however, will have to win the Easycall Cup to be sure of his job as events on the ground seem to contradict Mubaiwa’s word.

Leaders and title favourites Chicken Inn have a tight battle in their hands when they make the long journey to Kariba for a date against ZPC Kariba.

Chidzambwa’s side are hard to beat at home and the Game Corks will have to produce something out of the ordinary to come out with a good result.

Norman Mapeza’s FC Platinum are among the favourites for the Easycall Cup. Kugona Kunenge Kudada, as they are affectionately known by fans, have the advantage of playing at home against struggling Highlanders.

However, Mapeza himself says he is an admirer of the fading Bulawayo giants and refuses to be drawn into predicting the outcome of the game.

The Easycall Cup quarter finals, however, will get into motion at the National Sports Stadium on Sunday when Caps United’s green Machine play Hwange.

Caps United assistant coach Fungai Kwashi, the Easycall Cup gives them the chance to restore their tag as the Cup Kings of Zimbabwean football.

The semi finals of the Easycall Cup will be held on December 6 while the final has been reserved for December 13.

In athletics, South Africa-based Rutendo Nyahora will Sunday be out to make history when she goes into the mountains for the 21-kilometre Vumba Half Marathon hoping to make it three in a row.

Nyahora has won the competition in the past two years and is hoping to be thrust into the history books as the only athlete to win the competition three years running.

Nyahora, however, will not have it easy as she faces strong challenge from Faith and Constance Nyasango, Tabitha Tsatsa, Olivia Chitate and Samukeliso Moyo who is also coming from South Africa.

Defending champion Ellijah Mabhunu will also be in the mountains hoping to make it two in a row.

Mabhunu is coming into this race after having also won the Westgate half marathon and is looking forward to another good show in the Vumba half marathon.

First, however, he will have to contend with the likes of Wirimai Juwao, Cuthbert Nyasango, Kelvin Pangiso, Chrispen Pasipamire, and Jacob Mugomeri before dream of the $1,000 top prize.
