Progress is being recorded in the country’s quest to have a new constitution in time for the nation’s forthcoming general election with Constitution Parliamentary Commitee (COPAC) co-chairmen meeting in Harare on Monday with drafters to inspect the final charter that is expected to be put before the people in a referendum.
Co-chairmen Douglas Mwonzora of Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) formation of Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai and Zanu PF’s Munyaradzi Paul Mangwana, said they were satisfied with progress made so far.
Last week unity government principals, President Robert Mugabe, Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai, Deputy Prime Minister Arthur Mutambara and Industry Minister Welshman Ncube, announced they had agreed on outstanding issues that were blocking progress in the constitution-making progress.
Mwonzora said they later took the draft to the full select committee to endorse and take it to the House of Assembly.
