Highlanders secretary Emmett Ndlovu says he is lucky to be alive after armed robbers forced him a few days ago to part with R30,000 ($2,201), part of it being the club’s money collected from the sale of Bosso paraphernalia.

In a WhatsApp chat last night, Ndlovu told Studio 7 that he is lucky to be alive as the robbers pounced on him lastr Tuesdat and then he also lost property worth R30,000 when his car was vandalized the following day.

“I was robbed of R30,000 at gunpoint and unfortunately R14,500 ($1,061) of that amount was Highlanders money being proceeds from the sale of replica jerseys which money I was given to bring home.

“As if that was not enough, I then went back home at my son’s place because I didn’t have money for fuel. The next day thieves broke into the garage, tried to steal my car and again made away with products worth R30,000 which I wanted to courier home using malayitshas (border carriers).”

Ndlovu said he made two reports to the police who gave him case numbers and investigating officers. One of the messages from the South Africa Police Services reads in part, “…Mthethwa will investigate your case, Sebenza ref nr CAS 10/10/2015 United contact details … (mobile phone number inserted).”

Another investigations officer only identified as Mahne will take care of the other car breaking and robbery case.

Ndlovu said he has not yet received any response yet from the investigating officers, adding police warned him after the robbery to avoid carrying huge sums of money in South Africa.

“In fact, they said I was lucky to be alive. Unfortunately I have to pay back the money and that’s the painful part yet I thought I was helping out. Anyway God is in control.”
