Former Warriors manager, Ernest ‘Maphepha’ Sibanda, who attended Tuesday’s funeral wake at Ndlovu’s home in Melbourne Park, said friends, relatives, fans, and political parties are paying their last respects to the deceased former striker and coach.

The family of the late soccer legend Adam Ndlovu, who died in a car accident along the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls Road Sunday morning, says he will be laid to rest Saturday in Bulawayo.

Former Warriors manager, Ernest ‘Maphepha’ Sibanda, who attended Tuesday’s funeral wake at Ndlovu’s home in Melbourne Park, said friends, relatives, fans, and political parties are paying their last respects to the deceased former striker and coach.

Sibanda said Ndlovu’s younger brother, Peter, who was injured in the same accident, is receiving treatment at Bulawayo’s Mater Dei Hospital.

The late 42 year-old Chicken Inn FC coach died in the horrific crash with a 24-year-old woman, Nomqhele Tshili, believed to be a former student at Gwanda High School, Matabeleland South Province.

Adam was coaching Chicken Inn Football Club and Peter is an assistant coach of the senior national team, the Warriors, and head coach of the Zimbabwe Under-23 team, the Young Warriors.

During his club career, Adam played for Highlanders, SC Kriens, SR Delemont, FC Zurich, Moroka Swallows, Free State Stars and the Zimbabwe national team.

Many condolence messages from current and former footballers, members of the public, community leaders, church groups, students, politicians, national and international clubs like Coventry City have continued pouring since the tragic death of the ex-Warriors star striker.

In a statement, Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai said: “I am deeply saddened at the passing on of soccer legend, Adam Ndlovu, who was taken away from us in the horror crash that left his young brother, Peter, in hospital.

“I wish Peter a speedy recovery. Adam and Peter were part of our national football Dream Team in the 1990s and have continued to impart their skills to other young Zimbabwean footballers. They have made a significant contribution to our culture in Zimbabwe.”

In his message, President Robert Mugabe said” “It is with a deep sense of shock and sadness that I learnt of the sudden death of one of the country’s revered soccer legends following a car accident near Victoria Falls International Airport on Sunday.

The president wished Peter a speedy recovery and appealed to the motoring public to exercise extreme caution on the roads at all times and even more so during the forthcoming festive period in order to save lives.

Zanu PF chairman, Simon Khaya Moyo, also expressed his condolences to the Ndlovu family saying the news has “shocked the nation as the Ndlovu brothers are a household name among Zimbabweans because of their achievements in the world of soccer that lifted high the Zimbabwean flag.”

Former Highlanders coach Mkhuphali Masuku also expressed his sympathy to the Ndlovu family noting that he was supposed to have travelled with the two brothers but changed his mind before they drove off to Victoria Falls.
