Zimbabwe's Deputy Agriculture Minister Dies

Zimbabwean Deputy Agriculture Minister and Member of Parliament for Nketa in Bulawayo, Seiso Moyo, has died.

Moyo, a member of Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai’s Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) formation, reportedly died after collapsing at the Avenues Clinic in Harare Friday.

Witnesses said he had been complaining of shortness of breath.

Moyo’s position in cabinet was the result of President Robert Mugabe’s refusal in 2009 to swear in Roy Bennett, the exiled MDC treasurer, as deputy minister of agriculture.

Mr. Mugabe insisted that Bennett had a case pending in the courts. Mr. Tsvangirai then appointed Moyo, who was sworn in last year.

Moyo appeared Wednesday this week on VOA LiveTalk programme to weigh in on a discussion about the food shortages facing some regions of the country.

MDC organizing secretary, Nelson Chamisa, told VOA that Moyo complained of shortness of breath.

According to the global leadership project, the late Moyo is survived by a wife and 5 children. Moyo was believed to be in his 60s.
