Zimbabwe's Highlanders Draw 0-0 With Dynamos Despite Home Advantage

Some fans complained that Highlanders was denied two possible penalties that might have changed the outcome on Monday, but club secretary Tapela said the referee's decision is always final

In Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League action Monday, Highlanders Football Club drew 0-0 with Dynamos at Barbourfields Stadium despite its home-field advantage.

The two teams, which enjoy the largest national followings, clashed after playing a week earlier in the Independence Trophy final which Highlanders won 4-3 on penalties.

Highlanders Club Secretary Andrew Tapela told VOA reporter Marvellous Mhlanga-Nyahuye that despite the goal-less outcome he was pleased with the club's performance as it is in second place after playing five matches, led by Chicken Inn with 13 points.

"We have the rest of the season to play catch up and perhaps capture the title," said Tapera. He added that despite some disgruntlement from fans on the refereeing of Monday's match, he was generally happy with the outcome.

Some fans complained that Highlanders was denied two possible penalties that might have changed the outcome on Monday, but Tapela said the referee's decision is always final and his team and fans respected this though it cost them a win on home turf.
