Zimbabwe Statistics Agency Says Population Census Progressing Well

Zimbabwe’s national population census entered its third day Monday with enumerators visiting of President Robert Mugabe and his family at his official residence.

Washington Mapeta, spokesman for the Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency said the exercise is now on track though some enumerators are still without identification t-shirts.

Mapeta said the counting exercise progressed smoothly and hoped that they would meet their August 27 deadline.

When the program kicked off Saturday, there were reports of shortages of fuel, identification cards, stationery and transport problems coupled with inadequate supplies of t-shirts and bibs for enumerators.

Chenai Chimhanda of Uzumba District in Mashonaland East, who was counted Sunday, said so far she is satisfied with the enumeration process.
