  • Michael Kariati

The Zimbabwe football family is mourning the death of seven Dynamos fans who were killed in a traffic road accident on their way to watch their team in action in the Midlands.

The seven Dynamos supporters died before they could even watch their team win 2-1 away to Chapungu after a tragic accident Saturday morningnear Battlefields in Kwekwe. Thirteen other fans were seriously when the vehicle they were travelling burst a tyre, veered off the road and overturned.

National Football Association of Zimbabwe president Phillip Chiyangwa and Dynamos president Kenny Mubaiwa visited the scene of the accident and the injured, who included the mother of Dynamos striker Kim Sasama, in hospital.

Ironically, Sasama scored the goal that gave Dynamos the win and the maximum three points.

Chiyangwa took his time to pay the ambulance fees to have all the injured transferred from Kadoma General Hospital to Parirenyatwa Hospital in Harare.

The NFAZ president says this is a big loss not to only to Dynamos but to Zimbabwean football as the same Dynamos supporters alsorallied behind the Zimbabwe national teams.

Mubaiwa added that this was a great loss to the club as it came at a time when they needed more crowd support since their team is notplaying well.

Caps United president Farai Jere has pledged the Green Machine will assist Dynamos in the best way they can during these trying times.

Dembare paid tribute to their departed fans with that 2-1 win that has seen the team move to ninth on the league table up from 12th with 11th points from nine matches.

There was also tragedy at FC Platinum but this time on the field of play after Kugona Kunenge Kudada were beaten 2-1n at home by Sunday Chidzambwa’s ZPC Kariba.

The miners, however, stayed top of the table after Caps United stuttered to a goalless draw against Triangle which leaves them a point behind the leaders.

While Caps United coach Lloyd Chitembwe was mourning over too many missed chances, Triangle coach David Mandigora was smiling all the way to the Midlands town after picking up a vital point away from home.

Mandigora even went on to say his aim is to win the league title this season saying he is happy that is picking up the most important points away at big teams and winning all their home games.

However, as things stand right, it is Highlanders who were inactive over the weekend, who have the chance to go on top of the table should they win their outstanding fixture.

Moses Chunga returned to Premiership action with a bang after leading Harare City to a 2-1 over Ngezi Platinum Stars at Baobab Stadium

The wins is a relief to the long suffering Harare City fathers who had now won for some time and their team is now in eighth position ahead of this weekend’s game also away but to Bulawayo City.

The other weekend Premier Soccer League results were as follows,

Mutare City Rovers 0 Bulawayo City 1
Thsolotsho Pirates 1 How Mine 1

Africa Youth Championship result

Cameroon 3 Zimbabwe 0

At the same time, the Warriors of Zimbabwe will be entering the pitch in a few minutes time for their second game of their Cosafa tournament campaign against Madagascar.

The Warriors need to win this game at all costs to remain with chance of staying in the tournament after struggling to a two all drawagainst Swaziland in their opening game.

Only one team from the four team group qualifies for the quarter finals.

Now to cricket; Indian novices this afternoon humiliated Zimbabwe’s Chevron by eight wickets at Harare Sports Club in a game that has left many wondering whether Zimbabwe should continue playing cricket at this high level of game.

The Zimbabweans were dismissed for a paltry 126 runs which the visitors found too comfortable as they hit 129 in response with eightwickets still in hand.

This defeat comes after the Chevrons were dismantled by nine wickets by this third string Asian country side in the first ODI at the samevenue Saturday.

The defeats have left tongues wagging as this is a not an all that strong Indian side while Zimbabwe are fielding their best teamavailable.

The two teams will meet in the final ODI on Wednesday but India have wrapped up the Series.
