Zimbabwe Warriors Move Up One Step in FIFA/Coca Cola African Rankings

A report on the alleged fixing of matches for cash from Asian bookmakers in 2009 was handed to the Sports and Recreation Commission last week

Zimbabwe’s Warriors national soccer team has moved up a step in the Fifa/Coca Cola Africa rankings from 32nd to 31st place - but observers dismissed this saying the scandal-ridden team has a long way to go to the top 10.

Soccer analyst Omega Sibanda told VOA Studio 7 reporter Marvellous Mhlanga-Nyahuye that the Zimbabwe Football Association must urgently address the immigration status of Warriors Belgian coach, Tom Saintfiet, deported a few weeks ago for lack of a work permit and still awaiting his papers somewhere in the region.

The Zimbabwe Football Association has been under the spotlight over a match-fixing scandal involving games played on an Asian tour in 2009 in which key players and top managers have been implicated. A report on the alleged fixing of matches for cash from Asian bookmakers was handed to the Sports and Recreation Commission last week.
