The Zimbabwe Olympics Committee says preparations for the 2016 Rio Olympics are now at an advanced stage with over 30 athletes expected to participate.

Leader of Team Zimbabwe at the Olympics, Titus Zvomuya, says his organisation received funding from both the Olympic Committee and government and the team will start departing in batches at the end of the month.

Zvomuya says gold medalist and swimmer Kirsty Coventry is among athletes who have qualified for the competition and is expected to fly the flag high for the country.

"We are excited that Kirsty Coventry will be in Rio flying the flag for Zimbabwe amongst other athletes who will be participating on behalf of the country,"said Zvomuya.

The Olympics start next month on August 5th to the 21st and Zimbabwe's female soccer team, the Mighty Warriors, who are currently in camp in Bindura, will also be showcasing their talent at the international event.
