Zimbabwe Seeks to Complete Constitutional Outreach With Postponed Harare Meetings

Zimbabwe's parliamentary committee on constitutional revision said it has received input on the new basic document from Zimbabwean expatriate groups in South Africa, Britain, the United States, New Zealand and other countries

A senior official of Zimbabwe's Parliamentary Select Committee on Constitutional Revision said Friday that the panel is ready to hold outreach meetings in Harare this weekend which were canceled after September violence.

Committee Co-Chairman Douglas Mwonzora said constitutional outreach team members and rapporteurs are in the capital for meetings beginning Saturday. He said his panel hopes police will maintain order as has been promised.

But Combined Harare Residents Association Chairman Simbarashe Moyo said concerns remain as to security.

Elsewhere, the parliamentary committee said it has received input on the new basic document from Zimbabwean expatriate groups in South Africa, Britain, the United States, New Zealand and other countries.

Zimbabwe Exiles Forum director Gabriel Shumba, in Johannesburg, told VOA Studio 7 reporter Brenda Moyo that the opportunity to submit the diaspora comment document to the panel could not be missed.
