Matangaidze faces competition from several high-profile football administrators including Cuthbert Dube, Francis Zimunya, Chris Sambo, Lesley Gwindi, and former CAPS United and national team player Charlie Jones

Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League Chairman Tapuwa Matangaidze confirmed Tuesday that he will stand down next month to seek the presidency of the Zimbabwe Football Association, or ZIFA.

Matangaidze faces competition from several high-profile football administrators including Cuthbert Dube, Francis Zimunya, Chris Sambo, Lesley Gwindi, and former CAPS United and national team player Charlie Jones.

ZIFA Chairman Wellington Nyatanga is also in the running for the office of president, elections for which will be held in March.

Nyatanga told VOA Studio 7 reporter Marvellous Mhlanga-Nyahuye that he has started lobbying ZIFA Council members to back his candidacy.
