The leadership of the Harare Metropolitan Residents’ Forum, a grouping of residents associations from Harare, Chitungwiza, Ruwa and Norton was Tuesday night meeting with Chipinge residents to address the controversial issue of smart pre-paid water meters.

The Chipinge Town Council is Wednesday morning expected to hold a public tender for the supply of 2,000 pre-paid water meters, a move the residents are rejecting.

Harare mayor Bernard Manyenyeni recently announced that his council was still consulting with stakeholders on the issue after which it will install the meters if they are all in agreement.

Harare Metropolitan Residents’ Forum and Combined Harare Residents Association chairperson, Simbarashe Moyo, told Studio 7 they were in Chipinge to offer support to the residents in the same way they have supported all other residents across the country who are against the installation of the water meters.
