The head of delegation of Team Zimbabwe at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, Titus Zvomuya, says morale is high in the team despite the women national soccer team’s loss to Germany in their first match on Wednesday.
The Mighty Warriors, who fell to Germany 6-1, are expected to play Canada Saturday.
Swimmer Kirsty Coventry is Zimbabwe's flag-bearer for the opening ceremony.
Zvomuya Studio 7 that Zimbabwe has 31 athletes at the Olympics and they are hoping to collect some medals.
“We are very optimistic about our athletes at the Rio Olympics performing well. We have new sports like archery and rowing in which we are hoping to excel,'' said Zvomuya.
Team Zimbabwe will on Sunday feature some athletes in the women's 100 meter backstroke heat four. The archery team will have the individual 1/32 elimination rounds as well as the 100 meter freestyle swimming heat two.
The women's soccer team is also expected to play Tuesday.
"Morale is high among the athletes and we are hoping that Kirsty Coventry will perform well as this is her last Olympics," said Zvomuya.
