Zimbabwe Industry Minister Ncube Pessimistic on Constitutional Revision Process

Welshman Ncube told civic activists meeting in Bulawayo that public comment collected in the outreach process points to a constitution worse than the Kariba Draft favored by ZANU-PF and the version Zimbabweans rejected in 2000

Welshman Ncube, secretary general of the Movement for Democratic Change formation of Zimbabwean Deputy Prime Minister Arthur Mutambara, offered a dim view of the country's constitutional revision process this week.

He told a meeting of civil society organizations in Bulawayo that public comment collected in the outreach process points to a constitution worse than the Kariba Draft favored by ZANU-PF and the version Zimbabweans rejected in 2000.

Ncube, minister of Industry, praised civil society involvement in the process, but warned activists to be realistic.

Meeting participant Abel Chikomo, chairman of the Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum, told VOA Studio 7 reporter Patience Rusere that the session voted no confidence in the unity government and the revision exercise.
