Parliamentarian of Zimbabwe's Tsvangirai MDC Arrested in Gweru, Midlands

MDC lawmaker Amos Chibaya was arrested with his driver soon after addressing a youth forum in his Mkoba constituency and was being held at Gweru's Mutapa Police Station

Amos Chibaya, a member of the Zimbabwe Parliament for the Movement for Democratic Change formation of Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai, remained in police custody Monday in the Midlands capital of Gweru after his arrest Sunday on charges of inciting violence.

Chibaya was arrested with his driver soon after addressing a youth forum in his Mkoba constituency and was being held at Gweru's Mutapa Police Station, MDC sources said. His driver was being detained at Gweru Central Police Station, they said.

James Tsuro, a spokesman for the Tsvangirai MDC formation in Midlands South told VOA Studio 7 reporter Jonga Kandemiiri that the party views the latest arrests as a continuation of chronic harassment of its members of Parliament by pro-ZANU-PF authorities.
