Football Union Pushes Ahead With AIDS Programme

The Footballers Union of Zimbabwe with the support of the United States President’s Emergency Plan for Aids Relief says it has now embarked on the third phase of its HIV/AIDS awareness programme for footballers throughout the country.

The campaign dubbed ‘Half Time Talk/Keep HIV Offside Programme’ was started in 2011 and has so far imparted knowledge to more than 480 top footballers countrywide on HIV/AIDS issues.

Footballers Union of Zimbabwe secretary general Paul Gundani said his organisation will now be focusing on providing HIV/AIDS awareness programme for women soccer players from the national league.

“We are giving life-saving skills and imparting knowledge on HIV prevention. This phase is critical in that it is targeting female footballers in the premier league,” said Gundani.
