A large number of Zimbabweans are now addicted to social networking sites on the internet, leading to conflicts at home as the traditional family structures crumble.

Ministers of religion, family heads and others told Studio 7 there are some Zimbabweans that have been counseled due to Facebook addiction.

For an insight on this issue we turned to Reverend Useni Sibanda of the Zimbabwe Institute for Social Transformation, who said this has become a serious challenge in the country.

"We have actually counseled some people who are addicted to social networking sites. It appears as if most of them were addicted to Facebook and WhatsApp, said Sibanda.

According to industry estimates, there were 13,518 887 mobile phone subscribers in Zimbabwe at the end of March this year compared to 12.6 million subscribers during the same period in 2013.

Zimbabwe has a population of 13.6 million.
