Bulawayo Council to Install Pre-Paid Water Meters in Cowdray Park

The Bulawayo City Council says it is going ahead with installing pre-paid water meters in the city as directed by the government, beginning with Cowdray Park suburb as a pilot project, despite protests by Bulawayo residents last week against the move.

This came out at a meeting organized by the National Youth Development Trust in Bulawayo on Wednesday, where the youths grilled the local authority officials from the finance and engineering departments on the project, which they say undermines people’s rights to water, as they cannot afford to pay in advance for the service due to economic hardships.

National youth Development Trust programs officer Alfred Ncube said his organization will hold more consultative meetings on the issue.
