Youth Agenda Conducts Voter Education Program

The Youth Agenda Trust says it has embarked on a civic education program aimed at training first time voters in six of the country’s 10 provinces on their rights to vote in general elections expected early next year.

The program launched last week, will cover Harare, Midlands, Mashonaland East, Mashonaland West and Mashonaland Central provinces.

Some of the issues to be imparted to first time voters include election day processes and other electoral matters associated with the verification of votes and announcement of final results.

Program director Fortunate Nyamande said they hope their partners will cover the other four provinces.

Nyamande said there are a lot of impediments that tend to discourage young people from registering as voters.

He said his group will only deal with the civic education aspect since the mandate to do voter-education is the sole responsibility of the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission.
