Highlanders Football Club beat Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League title holders Chicken Inn 1-0 in the NetOne Easycall Cup final at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday in a season they were almost facing relegation.

Web and Facebook posts of Highlanders officials and some soccer followers monitored from Washington indicate that Bosso, as they are affectionately known, overpowered the Gamecorks in front of a capacity crowd.

One of the soccer followers, Ezra ‘Tshisa’ Sibanda, a former Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation broadcaster, posted a message on his Facebook wall congratulating Highlanders for the win.

“Congratulations Highlanders Bosso Tshilamoya Amahlolanyama Ezikamagebhula Ezimnyama Ngenkani, the 2015 Easy Call Champions! We roasted chickens 1 nil to land the biggest trophy.

“Thank you Khazeni Amin Soma Phiri, Cosmas Tsano Zulu & Shephered Mabaleka you saved our team from relegation and led Bosso to a respectable 6th position and also won us the richest Cup! Some of us who called for technical changes when Bosso was spiralling downwards have been proven correct!

“Bosso executive should give Soma-Phiri the contract and let him continue next season, he has done enough to prove himself. Don't make a mistake of picking another unknown to do trial and error with our team!”

Other Facebook and web postings show that Highlanders were still celebrating their win a couple of hours after the win as fans filled with joy flooded the city streets.

Highlanders received $80,000 for winning the cup.
