The draw for the 2013 Mbada Diamonds Cup was conducted in Harare on Friday with defending champions Dynamos being pitted against lowly-rated Tripple B in the first round of the 16-team tournament.

In other pairings, Harare City and Monomotapa will meet in a Harare derby and the same goes for Caps United and Motor Action.

Motor Action director Lizzy Rosen said Caps United should not look down on her team which has been struggling this season and is hanging precariously on the league table. She said cup matches are different from league games.

Bulawayo giants Highlanders face Gishon Ntini’s stubborn Triangle while Chicken Inn have a date with Shabanie Mine.

How Mine entertain Black Mambas while the game between Hwange and FC Platinum rounds off the Mbada Diamonds first round pairings.

The top four seeded teams Dynamos, Harare City, Caps United and Highlanders will not meet in the quarter finals should they win their first round matches.

Mbada Diamonds Corporate Services director George Manyaya revealed that the prize money remains $1 million, adding the winners of the competition will take home $130,000.

Manyaya said as per their agreement with the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League, Mbada Diamonds will subsidise the winners of the competition by $100,000 when they take part in the 2014 CAF Confederations Cup.
