Zimbabwe Health Ministry Backtracks on Cholera Diagnosis in Province

Less than a week after telling Zimbabweans that cholera had broken again out in Manicaland province, the Ministry of Health on Friday made a U-turn saying lab tests of 12 suspected cholera patients in Chipinge district showed they were not suffering from cholera.

Health Minister Henry Madzorera’s statement to reporters Tuesday that health officials had confirmed a new cholera outbreak caused much concern given the death toll of 4,288 from the 10-month cholera epidemic which ended just a few months ago.

Dr. Madzorera told reporter Sandra Nyaira of VOA's Studio 7 for Zimbabwe that he is relieved the tests for the cholera bacterium came back negative.
