Harare Meeting on Zimbabwe National Healing Opens Fresh Wounds

A conference of youth on the topic of Zimbabwean national healing on Wednesday evening organized the Ministry of Youth Development, Indigenization and Empowerment, turned violent leaving one person injured, sources present at the meeting said Thursday.

Sources present at the meeting said youths associated with the ZANU-PF party of President Robert Mugabe seized control of the session after youths from the Movement for Democratic Change and civil society organizations complained that discussions were avoiding important issues such as the wave of political violence that swept the country in mid-2008.

Advocacy Officer Mfundo Mlilo of the Zimbabwe National Students’ Union described events Wednesday evening at the Rainbow Towers Hotel to reporter Gibbs Dube.

Contacted by VOA, Youth Development Minister Saviour Kasukuwere declined to comment on the national healing and education reform meeting called by his ministry.
