Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League Urged To Educate Players On Cholera

Team Secretary David Makombe of Zimbabwe's Monomotapa Football Club says the country's Premier Soccer League is not doing enough to alert players to the risk of cholera amid the ongoing epidemic, and how they can avoid it.

The Beitbridge-based Underhill team last week canceled a league match with Monomotapa citing concerns about cholera, but Makombe questioned the veracity of the claim.

VOA was unable to reach Underhill management for comment on the matter. Beitbridge, on the border with South Africa, has been hit hard by the epidemic.

Makombe told reporter Marvellous Mhlanga-Nyahuye that soccer teams must take it upon themselves to educate players on the risks of infection.
