Despite Home Ground Advantage, Ghana Knocked Out of Africa Cup

Ghana, host of the 2008 Africa Cup Of Nations, was knocked out of contention for the title on Thursday after being defeated 1-0 by Cameroon.

Cameroon will play the winner of the other semi-final, Egypt vs. Ivory Coast.

Scenes of sobbing Ghanaian players and local fans disappointed at their team’s loss put something of a damper on the jubilation by Cameroonians.

Cameroon was considered an underdog going into the match.

VOA sports reporter Sonny Young told reporter Marvellous Mhlanga-Nyahuye of VOA's Studio 7 for Zimbabwe earlier that he was rooting for a win by Ghana as it would make a more exciting final if the host team were in the running.
