Defender Zvenyika Makonese of Zimbabwe's national football team, the Warriors, for the time being on the roster of South Africa’s Santos Football Club, is scheduled to try out at Britain’s Stoke City Football Club next month, Makonese said Tuesday.
Makonese told reporter Marvellous Mhlanga-Nyahuye of VOA's Studio 7 for Zimbabwe that Santos has not been doing so well in the South African Premier League thus he is weighing a move to Stoke City if his trial is successful.
Elsewhere, the Zimbabwe Sports Writers Association and soccer's main sponsor in the country, CBZ bank, were at odds over selection of the Soccer Star of the Year.
Scribes and bankers were to meet Wednesday in an effort to sort out their differences over the selection, which normally takes place in late November. The writers object to what they say is an effort by the bank to control the selection process.
