Zimbabwe Women's Cricket Tunes Up For Pakistan World Cup Play

Zimbabwe’s women’s cricket team has stepped up preparations for Women’s World Cup qualifiers starting November 19 in Pakistan.

Friendly matches are part of that process and on Friday the squad played against the Churchill under-16 boys team.

Zimbabwe women's cricket, barely three years old, hopes for an upset in Pakistan or at least to make a positive impression to offset the many troubles of the men's team, against which Sri Lanka swept a three-match series ended Thursday..

Fans said the women cricketers looked impressive although the friendly match against Churchill was rained out and was to pick up on Saturday.

Sports commentator Brian Goredema told reporter Marvellous Mhlanga-Nyahuye of VOA's Studio 7 for Zimbabwe that the women's team could score an upset in Pakistan as its fitness and professionalism have improved over the past two weeks in camp.
