Zimbabwe's Highlanders Raise Funds For African Champions Tourney

A top official of Highlanders Football Club of Zimbabwe said Tuesday that the team is already getting ready for African Champions League qualifiers beginning next month.

Highlanders Chairman Ernest Sibanda said his club has received positive responses from potential corporate sponsors it has approached for help raising the Z$225 million it needs to meet the costs of taking part in the African soccer event. It is also looking to the Harare government for financial assistance, the soccer executive said.

Sibanda told reporter Marvellous Mhlanga-Nyahuye of VOA's Studio 7 for Zimbabwe that he is optimistic Harare will respond favorably, because the Highlanders will be flying the national flag in the African Champions league tournament.
