Top Zimbabwean Marathoners Lose South African Sponsorship

About 10 Zimbabwean long distance runners sponsored by South Africa’s Liberty Nike - a joint venture between the athletic footwear maker and Liberty Life Insurance – face tough times in 2007 as sponsorship deals are terminated at the end of this year.

Marathoner James Chamunorwa, who Liberty Nike has sponsored for five years, told Studio Seven sports reporter Marvellous Mhlanga-Nyahuye that he was stunned by the decision, as the company had supported him since the start of his career.

Elsewhere in Zimbabwe sports, the Premier Soccer League has suspended all soccer matches this weekend to make way for the Zifa Unity Cup involving to four provincial teams at Rufaro Stadium on Saturday and at Barbourfields on Sunday.
