Displaced Families In Victoria Falls Struggle With Housing Shortage

The demolition of hundreds of makeshift homes in Victoria Falls during Operation Murambatsvina has resulted in an acute housing shortage in the resort town.

There’s not much relief in sight for most Victoria Falls residents. Operation Garikai ("Live Well"), the ambitious reconstruction drive rolled out by the government after it was sharply criticized by the United Nations and other countries for its destruction of marginal housing, has by most accounts stalled. Development by the private sector has picked up, but private sector rents are out of reach for many families.
