MDC's 'Pro-Senate' Faction in South African Road Show

Movement for Democratic Change Secretary General Welshman Ncube, leader of one faction of the divided Zimbabwean opposition party, was in South Africa on Thursday to brief the Johannesburg press, disappointing speculation that he might meet with South African President Thabo Mbeki seeking support for his MDC grouping.

Reporter Chinedu Offor of VOA’s Studio 7 for Zimbabwe interviewed Ncube, asking him why his faction, which broke with MDC President Morgan Tsvangirai over taking part in or boycotting senate elections, felt the need to brief the Johannesburg press.

Speaking with Studio 7 reporter Blessing Zulu, acting spokesman Nelson Chamisa of the Tsvangirai faction dismissed the Ncube group’s mission to South Africa.
