South African Union to Step Up Pressure on Harare

  • Jonga Kandemiiri

The Congress of South African Trade Unions said it plans tougher action against Harare to pressure it to halt the destruction of homes and businesses.

COSATU organized demonstrations at the Beit Bridge border crossing into South Africa in April amid charges that Zimbabwe’s general election was rigged. But the union stopped short of staging an embargo on traffic to and from Zimbabwe.

COSATU spokesman Patrick Craven told Jonga Kandemiiri of VOA's Studio 7 for Zimbabwe, though, that ultimately Zimbabweans must bring about change.
